I loved Greek mythology as a kid so, having holidayed on the Greek islands but not the mainland, I just had to watch this Athens video.

I’ll start by managing expectation. This video isn’t a sanitised tourist commercial and is much more warts and all (which I much prefer) but it still packs in all of the historical landmarks and sights that I was hoping to see. Among others, it includes:

The Archaeological Promenade, a pedestrian only, tree-lined walkway with great views of the ancient Acropolis, home to the legendary Parthenon.

A great tour around OAKA Stadium, opened in 1982 and which has hosted multiple European/Champions League Finals as well as the 2004 Summer Olympic Games.

Kalimarmaro, or the Panathenaic Stadium, which is built entirely from white marble and hosted the very first modern Olympic Games in 1896.
Surprisingly though, I think my favourite footage is from the mountains which embrace Athens where you get some really great views of this historic city.

If you want a great virtual tour and a real feel for what day to day life in Athens is really like (as well as all the iconic landmarks that you’d expect) then I’d recommend this video.
