Consuegra, Spain, is famous for its iconic windmills, which are perched on a hill alongside the medieval Castillo de la Muela. These windmills are some of the best-preserved in Spain and are said to have inspired Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, in which the protagonist mistakes them for giants and charges at them.

These windmills were traditionally used for grinding grain, harnessing the strong winds of the La Mancha plains. They typically have a cylindrical base made of stone, with wooden blades.
