Just a short drive from Exmouth lies Mangrove Bay, a quiet and picturesque spot in Ningaloo Marine Park on the north-west coast of Western Australia. Known for its calm waters, rich birdlife and peaceful atmosphere, Mangrove Bay offers a more low-key experience compared to the popular snorkelling beaches along the reef.
The area is home to a unique mangrove ecosystem, where mudflats and coastal vegetation provide a refuge for marine and bird species. A short walk leads to a birdwatching station, which offers excellent opportunities to observe native and migratory birds, especially in the early morning or late afternoon.
The calm waters and wide open skies also make it a great place to watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean. As part of the larger Ningaloo region, Mangrove Bay highlights the diverse landscapes of this UNESCO-protected coastline – from coral reefs and beaches to mangroves and lagoons.
